In the third quarter of 2024, the top navigation and maps applications in South Africa displayed varied performance trends across downloads and active user metrics, according to data from Sensor Tower.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic maintained a consistent download rate throughout the quarter, fluctuating between approximately 17.6K and 22.2K weekly downloads. The app saw a stable number of weekly active users, hovering around 305K to 319K.

Google Maps experienced an upward trend in downloads, peaking at 24.2K in late September. The app's active user base also grew, with numbers rising from around 613K to 665K over the quarter.

GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation from AppStar Studios showed a fluctuating download pattern, with a high of 19.9K in early July and a low of 8.9K in early August. Revenue for this app saw minor fluctuations, reaching up to $91 in early September. Active user numbers demonstrated a slight increase towards the end of the quarter, moving from 51.8K to 35.8K.

Google Earth showed a steady decline in downloads, starting at 7K in July and dropping to 4.9K by the end of September. Active user numbers also decreased, from 45.2K to 40.2K throughout the quarter.

Offline Maps, GPS, Speedometer experienced a varied download trend, peaking at 9.4K in late September. Active users saw a gradual increase, ending the quarter at 8.9K.
